A majority of likely 2022 voters in Washington state support a ban on assault weapons like the AR-15 rifle, with more than fifty percent showing strong support, according to the poll more recent from the NPI.
Fifty-six percent of 1,039 voters polled last week by the NPI Public Policy Review said they supported the ban, while 38 percent opposed it. Only 6% are unsure.

Then, just a few days later, elementary school children in Uvalde, Texas, were also killed with an assault weapon, their bodies in many cases not visible for identification purposes due to severe injuries that they left
Tulsa Shooting Puts Focus On Waiting Periods For Gun Buyers
The United States is the only advanced country in the world that regularly experiences mass shootings. And as recent history has shown us, no place on our planet has been spared the scourge of gun violence.
Homes, workplaces, schools, places of worship, grocery stores, movie theaters, festivals...all have become horrific crime scenes too many times to count.
We don't have to live like this or accept it. There is no good reason to allow the local population to buy or import weapons of war. Howitzers, fighter jets and tanks are not sold to civilians, and military assault weapons should not be.
If you search the web, you will find seemingly endless essays by gun enthusiasts openly arguing that gun safety laws do not and cannot work.
Northwestern Study Says 1994 2004 Federal Assault Weapons Ban Worked
During the 1990s, the United States had a federal assault weapons ban, which reliable research shows has helped reduce mass shootings.
Unfortunately, that ban expired in 2004 and was never renewed by Congress, which was then under Republican control.
Seven states now ban assault weapons, including the District of Columbia, but Washington is not one of them. (The seven states are California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.)
Our polls show that voters here are ready for the Evergreen State to take action and be among the states to ban assault weapons.

Earlier this year, in February, we found a large group in favor of banning high-capacity magazines and banning firearms from local government meetings and polling places.
